Who are the Green Scorpions?  

South African's Environmental Management Inspectorate (EMIs) are known locally as the Green Scorpions. 

It is estimated that there are 1500 Green Scorpions (EMIs) in South Africa.

The Green Scorpions inspect all environmental crimes.  Among their ranks are experts in air pollution, waste, flora, fauna and invasive species.

2017

The rock or common pigeon (Columa livia) is a Category 3 invasive alien species. 

All members of the pigeon racing fraternity are required to have a Category 2 permit for keeping racing pigeons - according to the South Africa's NEMBA AIS Regulations.  

Independent Newspapers (South Africa) ran a series on pigeon racing in the country in 2017.

Prior to 2010

It is estimated that there are approximately 27 000 indigenous species in South Africa and 9 000 foreign plant species that have been introduced to the country over the past few centuries.
